Roomba 890 Vs 880

One of the reasons why iRobot’s Roomba has become a top brand of robotic vacuum cleaners is because the company always seeks to improve their models with better performance and new features. You can easily see this when you look at Roomba 890 vs 880. The new Roomba 890 actually shares a number of similarities with Roomba 880. However, it also comes with new, more advanced features than the old model.

The Similarities
Despite the different colors and on-board buttons, these two models actually have the same dimensions. Each of them measures 13.9 inches in diameter and 3.6 inches in height. They are compact and slim enough to clean under most furniture pieces. See also: Roomba 890 vs 980.

Both of them also use the same iAdapt navigation technology, which employs acoustic and optical sensors to detect dirtier spots that require extra attention and avoid stairs. Both of them have the anti-tangle design that allows them to navigate over and around power cords. They both can return automatically to their docks when the battery levels are low and need to be recharged.

Roomba 890 and Roomba 880 have more-or-less the same cleaning power. They both use the AeroForce cleaning technology, which features sophisticated brushless extractors that are able to break down dirt and debris efficiently. Their AeroForce High Efficiency Filters ensure that 99% of all dust, pollens, and debris particles are trapped inside the dustbin. Both Roomba 890 and Roomba 880 have full bin indicators, and they are both programmable to operate based on a schedule.

Wi-Fi Connectivity
The first and perhaps the most significant difference between Roomba 890 vs 880 is the Wi-Fi connectivity. The new Roomba 890 has built-in Wi-Fi that enables the robotic vacuum cleaner to connect to your home’s wireless network. Once connected, this robot can be controlled by voice commands via Alexa or Google Assistant – this is a very nice feature for a smart home system. In addition, you will be able to control the robot remotely via a mobile app as well; this feature is useful when you are leaving the home for several days and you want to make sure that your home stays clean.

Navigation Control
The next difference between Roomba 890 and Roomba 880 is the navigation control. The old model, Roomba 880, still uses virtual wall lighthouses which emit invisible IR beams to guide the device away from rooms and places that you don’t want to be touched.

On the other hand, the new Roomba 890 uses a dual mode virtual barrier, which is more convenient to use. It has a halo mode to secure an area with a four-ft diameter. The halo mode is also useful to make sure that the robot does not go over your pet’s food/water bowls or near an expensive vase.

Battery Type
The last difference between Roomba 890 and Roomba 880 is the battery type. The old model Roomba 880 still uses a nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery, which is not very durable. Such batteries will degrade over time, and you will eventually need to replace them.

On the other hand, Roomba 890 is armed with a lithium-ion battery. In general, lithium-ion batteries are more durable. They can last much longer before they need to be replaced. In addition, the battery life of Roomba 890 is also better, as the device has a longer running time before it needs to be recharged.
